Kharkovshchina protests against shale gas production

More than a thousand inhabitants of the city of Izum yesterday on the central square of the city were protested against the production of Shell shale gas in the Kharkovshchina.

To the accompaniment of the rally, the deputies of the Izyumsky district council accepted the appeal to the parliament. In it, they asked people's deputies to suspend the agreement with the company that wants to obtain shale gas in Ukraine.

According to the chosen ones, the ban should act before a comprehensive environmental examination. They plan to make an appropriate decision at the session of the city council.

In support of their position, “antislant” activists gathered almost 3 thousand signatures in Raisins. Already in the near future, signature sheets also plan to send to the Verkhovna Rada.

Recall that on January 24 this year, an agreement was signed in Davos between Shell and Nadra Yuzovskaya on the division of products from shale gas production in the Yuzovsky site in the Kharkov and Donetsk regions.

Subsequently, the Vice President of Shell in Ukraine Graham Tyly said that shale gas production will not begin until all the necessary examinations, including environmental.

As you know, the chairman of the Lviv Regional Council Peter Kolody said that his regional council did not receive a draft contract with Chevron on the production of shale gas and is not ready to coordinate it to the final conclusions of ecologists.

However, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine oleg Proskuryakov said that all issues with local governing bodies are almost settled. “We went to understanding with self -government bodies in those regions where Chevron will work,” he said.

Meanwhile, last week similar, though not such crowded protest rallies took place in Mariupol and Krasnoarmeysk, Donetsk region.

However, as it has just been known, in Mariupol they are preparing to hold a large -scale protest against the production of shale gas on March 17 this year. As the organizers assure, at least 5 thousand people will come to the Lenin monument near the Objor supermarket.
