The Indian company TPREL has commissioned a 198 MW wind energy project to supply renewable electricity to Tata Steel Limited.

The Indian company Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Limited (TPL), has commissioned a 198 megawatt (MW) wind energy project to supply electricity to its steel subsidiary Tata Steel Limited, the company said in a statement released on Wednesday, February 4.

The wind power project, located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, includes 55 wind turbines with a capacity of 3.6 MW each and is designed to supply about 31 million units (MU) of renewable electricity to Tata Steel Limited, the statement said.

It is expected to offset 26,350 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, supporting the decarbonization of Tata Steel Limited and the sustainability of the steel industry, it said.

With this addition, TPREL's total renewable energy capacity has reached 11.6 gigawatts (GW), of which 6.2 GW is in operation and the balance is at various stages of implementation.
