CISA calls on steel producers to control steel production and ensure stable development

At the recent 13th Conference of the Members of the Chinese Association of Ferrous Metallurgy (CISA), held in Beijing, Zhao Mine, President of CISA and Chairman of Shougang Group, said that in 2025, China's steel industry demonstrated the following five main characteristics: a strong supply structure and weak demand persisted, while the contradictions of demand and Supply remained strong; steel exports reached a new all-time high, while imports continued to decline; steel prices declined year after year with narrowed ranges of fluctuations; total profits increased year after year, and work quality and efficiency improved; and environmental performance continued to improve with notable advances in environmental management.

In 2025, China's steel production amounted to 960.812 million tons, which is 4.4 percent less than in the previous year, while steel exports amounted to 119 million tons, which is 7.5 percent more than in the previous year.

Zhao Mine stressed that the period of the 15th five-year plan (2026:30) is a critical stage for the steel industry to accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system. The steel industry will face changes, including a marked imbalance between supply and demand, relatively low industry concentration, weak resource security, increasing profit pressures, and a difficult trading environment.

As 2026 is the first year of the 15th five-year plan, the CISA president called on steelmakers in China to continue reforming and address complex issues to boost the pace of development.;
