According to local media provider Capital, Bosnia and Herzegovina is preparing to impose 30 percent tariffs on imported steel and steel products for a 200-day period. The proposal, which now requires the approval of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is modeled on similar trade measures recently adopted in neighboring Serbia.
Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovinacalled for an urgent responseby the relevant institutions after the decision of the Government of Serbiaintroduce temporary import quotasfor some ferrous metals and steel products, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
Increase in import tariffs on fuel
According to the Ministry, imports of key steel products to Bosnia and Herzegovina have increased sharply compared to historical averages. In particular, in 2025, imports from Serbia exceeded 9,000 tons, which is 408 percent higher than the annual average for the period 2021-2024. The increase in imports has put serious competitive pressure on domestic producers and risks making local markets dependent on foreign products.
The Ministry claims that the uncontrolled growth of imports undermines the stability of the construction sector and can lead to job losses, reduced investment, lower tax revenues and higher prices in the domestic market.
