Indian state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals limited (BHEL) has been awarded the order to build a power project for state steelmaker Steel Authority of India limited (SAIL) IISCO steel plant located at Burnpur in the eastern state of West Bengal, the company said in a statement on Wednesday, February 18.
The $132-$165 million project is expected to be completed within 39 months.
The power project is part of SAIL's major expansion program at its Burnpur facility. The steelmaker has already initiated a $5 billion investment project to build a new 4.6 million tonne integrated steel plant at its existing IISCO plant. Once the expansion is completed, the plant's total installed capacity will increase to 7.1 million tons per year.
