SMS Group to supply CCS mill stands for Yamato Steel heavy profile mill

The German manufacturer of SMS Group plants announced the conclusion of a contract with the Japanese steel company Yamato Steel Co. Ltd. for a major modernization program at the Himeji steel plant for the installation of advanced compact cartridge stands (CCS). The upgrade, which is scheduled to be completed in 2028, will significantly expand the company's capacity to produce beams and sheet piles in line with its long-term growth strategy.

As announced by SMS Group, the project involves the reconstruction of existing universal roughing and edging mills at Yamato Steel mill. The manufacturer stated that its CCS® (Compact Cartridge Rack) technology ensures high rack rigidity, supporting improved product quality.

SMS Group indicated that the compact design of the CCS® system makes it particularly suitable for modernization projects in abandoned fields, such as the Yamato Steel heavy profile mill.

The plant manufacturer stated that these stands are designed to produce a wide range of products, including I-beams and I-beams and U-type sheet piles. The equipment will support Yamato Steel in the production of heavy profiles and sheet piles. The modernization of the mill's stand is expected to be completed by the summer of 2028.
