According to Latin American steel producer Ternium, the company has started work on two new production lines - a cold rolling mill and a galvanizing line - at its Pesquería plant in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, as part of an ongoing $4 billion expansion project in the country.
Ternium said the launch marks a key milestone in the third phase of expansion at its industrial hub in Pescheria. Investments were announced in 2023, and a new sheet steel plant is planned to be launched in 2026. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 2.6 million tons.
Facilities in operation
Ternium CEO Maximo Vedoya said during a meeting with investors: "We have started production at our new cold rolling mill and galvanizing line at the Pesquería plant. This achievement completes our further expansion in the Industrial Center. The project also included the addition of an etching line and the center of the finish line. All these facilities are currently in operation, and the cold rolling and galvanizing lines have begun phased commissioning."
According to the company, the new galvanizing and etching line and the cold tandem rolling mill production lines are part of the third stage of expansion in the Pescheria industrial center. The complex produces advanced high-strength steels, which are used in the production of lighter and safer vehicles.
