According to media reports, Norwegian producer of environmentally friendly steel Blastr Green Steel is in talks to acquire the Specialty Steel UK (SSUK) plant of the British steel company Liberty Steel Group.
Blastr was established to develop the pig iron and steel value chain in the UK and Europe with an environmentally sustainable and competitive structure. According to media reports, Blastr has developed plans to transfer its holding company from Norway to the UK. However, it remains unclear whether this move depends on the successful acquisition of SSUK.
By a court decision last summer, the activities of the SSUK were subjected to compulsory liquidation. The company is the third largest steel producer in the UK and plays a key role in the country's specialty steel segment.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the UAE steel company Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) was the latest bidder to acquire the British SSUK enterprises.
