U.S. slab imports totaled 339,355 tons last December, down 14.6 percent month-over-month and up 107.6 percent from December 2024, according to preliminary U.S. Commerce Department census data. In value terms, slab imports totaled $181.4 million in December 2025, up from $206.7 million in November and $97.3 million in December 2024.
The United States imported the most slabs from Brazil in December with 222,456 tons, up from 211,414 tons in November and 45,566 tons in December 2024. Other major sources of slab imports in December included Mexico with 49,064 tonnes, Japan with 48,325 tonnes and Indonesia with 14,662 tonnes.
