Izmir Turkish Steel Company Kardemir Çelik Sanayi A.
Ş. announced that it was ranked first in receiving support under the Izmir Development Agency (IZKA) Green Transformation in Industry program. The six-month program provides participating companies with comprehensive assistance in areas such as training, current situation analysis, strategy and roadmap development, consulting services and project development.
Ozlem Bakırel, member of the board of directors of Kardemir Çelik, said that the support received from IZKA will significantly strengthen its sustainability initiatives. She noted that Kardemir Çelik has been implementing initiatives focused on sustainable development for many years, including investments in research and development, renewable energy, energy efficiency projects and carbon footprint monitoring.
Advanced EAF production and energy efficiency
The company operates a state-of-the-art steel mill in Aliage, Izmir. Using electric arc furnace technology, the plant produces blanks from scrap metal. The 100-ton electric arc furnace is equipped with a Fescon system that recovers waste heat, providing energy savings of 15 to 30 percent during the production process.
Kardemir Çelik also operates an integrated production infrastructure, including a 40,000-tonne-per-year carbon production plant and a high-capacity air separation plant.
