French steel industry output decreased by 0.4 percent in January 2026 compared to December

According to statistics released by the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Research (INSEE), French output increased by 0.1 percent month-on-month in January this year after rising 0.5 percent in December last year. In the November-January quarter, French output increased 1.9 percent year-on-year and decreased 0.5 percent quarter-on-quarter.

In January, the production of base metals and finished metal products in France, excluding machinery and equipment, decreased by 0.4 month-on-month after an increase of 2.3 percent in the previous month.

On the other hand, in January, the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers in France fell by 5.8 percent year-on-year after falling by 3.3 percent month-on-month in the previous month, while the production of the domestic construction industry decreased by 1.4 percent month-on-month in the given month after rising by two percent in December compared to since November. In November-January, the production volume of the domestic construction industry decreased by 0.8 percent compared to the previous quarter.
