India became a net exporter of finished steel during the first 11 months (April-February) of the 2025-26 fiscal year, reaching exports of 6.02 million tons against imports of 5.6 million tons, preliminary data from the Ministry of Steel showed on Tuesday, March 10.
During the period, Indian steel exports increased by 36%, while imports decreased by 37% year-on-year.
The total crude steel production in the country during this period was estimated at 153.61 million tons, an increase of 11%, while consumption increased by 7.2% to 147.7 million tons year-on-year.
