According to the Chinese Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), in January-February of this year, the production and sale of automotive equipment in China amounted to 4.122 million units and 4.152 million units, down by 9.5 percent and 8.8 percent year-on-year, respectively.
During the specified period, exports of cars from China amounted to 1,352 million units, an increase of 48.4 percent year-on-year.
In February alone, China's automotive production and sales totaled 1.672 million units and 1.805 million units, down 20.5 percent and 15.2 percent year-on-year, while down 31.7 percent and 23.1 percent month-on-month, respectively. In February, China's car exports totaled 672,000 units, up 52.4 percent from the same period last year and down 1.4 percent from the previous month.
The transitional phase of the car purchase subsidy policy and the Chinese New Year holiday contributed to a decline in car sales in the first two months of this year. CAAM said that the car market is expected to recover in March, when the details of the implementation of local subsidies will be finalized and new car models launched. Car sales are expected to grow in 2026.
