Indian state-owned mining company NMDC limited will achieve its highest iron ore production of over 50 million tonnes in 2025-26, even two weeks before the end of the financial year, a company spokesperson said on Monday, March 16.
"Long before the close of the current financial year, NMDC limited is poised to become the first company to produce 50 million tonnes of iron ore per annum," said he.
The company's previous maximum iron ore production for the year was 45.2 million tonnes, achieved in 2023-24.
“The achievement of 50 million tonnes is a notable achievement and reflects the significant progress made in renewing the operators. What once took decades to build, we have accelerated in just a few years through sharper execution, responsible mining practices and a clear commitment to national priorities,” said Amitava Mukherjee, Chairman and Managing Director, NMDC limited.
NMDC remains central to ensuring the security of iron ore in the country. As India plans to increase its steel production capacity to 300 million tonnes by 2030, ensuring a stable and reliable domestic supply of iron ore has become a strategic priority, he added.
