Russian steel pipe manufacturer TMK announced the shipment of the first industrial batch of large-diameter pipes manufactured using hybrid laser-arc welding technology, which became the first such delivery in Russia. The products were supplied to Gazprom Transgaz Surgut, a Gazprom subsidiary responsible for gas transportation infrastructure. The pipes will be used to repair a section of the main gas pipeline.
The supplied pipes have a diameter of 1420 mm and a wall thickness of 15.7 mm and are made of K60 steel. Production was carried out at the Vysota 239 workshop in Chelyabinsk, where the pipes were manufactured in accordance with Gazprom’s technical requirements. The pipes have an internal smooth-walled coating and an external polyethylene coating designed for the durability of the pipeline.
The development of new pipe products was carried out within the framework of the scientific and technical cooperation program between TMK and PJSC Gazprom. The technology of hybrid laser-arc welding used in the production of pipes was developed jointly by specialists from the Chelyabinsk production of TMK and the company's Welding Technology Center.
