According to the latest data from the U.S. International Trade Commission, scrap metal exports from the United States totaled 939,277 tons in January this year, down 6.7 percent month-on-month and 9.2 percent less year-on-year.
Turkey was the largest recipient of U.S. pig iron and scrap exports in January with 309,977 tons, down 28.2 percent year-over-year. month-on-month and up 9.8 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in January included Mexico with 148,784 tons, Thailand with 93,323 tons and Taiwan with 52,503 tons.
In value terms, US scrap metal exports totaled $440.34 million in January this year, up from $471.3 million in December and $416.37 million in January 2025 year.
