Australian miner Mineral Resources (MinRes) has announced the first shipment of iron ore from its Lamb Creek iron ore project located in its Pilbara hub, highlighting the milestone as a key step in advancing its iron ore portfolio.
MinRes said the milestone was reached just three months after ground was disrupted in December 2025, attributing the rapid progress to its own operations engineering and construction team.
The Ministry of Resources noted that Lamb Creek will operate as an open-pit iron ore mine with a production capacity of 7.5 million tons per year. The company said the project is expected to expand the production profile of Pilbara Hub by more than five years, as well as provide an improved cost profile compared to existing operations.
MinRes also indicated that the Lamb Creek development is linked to the planned wind-down of the Wonmunna iron ore operation. According to the company, all Wonmunna employees will be transferred to Lamb Creek, with no job losses.
The company said its Pilbara Hub production guidance for the 2025-26 financial year is 9-10 million tonnes, supported by the expansion of the Lamb Creek project.
