According to U.S. Department of Commerce export data, U.S. exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L and T beams) totaled 15,215 tons in January of this year, down 0.8 percent from December and down 20.0 percent from January of the previous year. In value terms, beam exports were $23.62 million in January, up from $25.42 million in the previous month and $20.97 million in the same month in 2025.
The United States shipped the most beams to Canada in January with 11,793 tons, compared to 10,203 tons in December and 12,024 tons in January 2025. Another popular destination was Mexico with 2,615 metric tons. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 tons or more) for U.S. beam exports in January.
