Japan's crude steel production stabilized in February 2026

In February of this year, crude steel production in Japan decreased by 5.3 percent compared to the previous month and remained stable compared to February 2025, amounting to 6.40 million tons, according to data released by the Japanese Federation of Ferrous Metallurgy (JISF).

Meanwhile, in the specified month, Japan's pig iron production amounted to 4.56 million metric tons, which is 8.4 percent less compared to the previous month and 0.9 percent less year-on-year.

In the first two months of this year, the country's steel production totaled 13.15 million metric tons, down 0.3 percent, while pig iron production totaled 9.53 million metric tons, down 1.5 percent from the same period last year.
