According to INDA, the Brazilian institute of steel distributors, sales of flat products by Brazilian distributors reached 297,200 metric tons (t) in February, up from 293,900 t in January.
On the same comparative basis, INDA-linked distribution chain purchases increased 5 percent to 306,000 tons, and inventory levels increased 0.8 percent to 1,357 million tonnes, equivalent to 3.8 months of consumption, stable since January but still at a level considered high for the industry as it exceeds the 2.8 month benchmark.
Imports in February increased 79.4 percent to 404,800 tonnes, including heavy sheets, HRC, CRC, galvanized, HDG, pre-painted and galvanized products. This dramatic increase reflects the anticipation of customs clearance of Chinese rolled and coated rolled products to avoid paying anti-dumping duties imposed by the authorities. According to INDA, there are reports of customs clearance of materials on board ships.
Compared to February 2025, sales in February 2026 were down 7.7 percent, purchases were down 11.6 percent, and imports were up 91.7 percent.
INDA expects March 2026 purchases and sales to increase 15 percent compared to February levels 2026
