German plant manufacturer SMS Group said it has signed a contract with Indian steelmaker Steel Authority of India limited (SAIL) to supply two dry coke quenching units at IISCO steel plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, along with its consortium partner MCK Kutty Engineers Pvt. Ltd.
SMS Group said each unit will have a coke processing capacity of 130 tonnes per hour. The units will be serviced by the new coke oven batteries No. 13 and 14 at the IISCO SAIL facility. The project is a key component of the Steel Authority of India limited's steel expansion plan targeting a capacity of 4.8 million tonnes per annum at the Burnpur site.
The project will be completed on a discrete turnkey basis, the planter said. The scope of work includes design, engineering, supply, installation, commissioning, electrical and automation, digitalization and related services.
According to SMS Group, the contract represents a significant step in the Steel Authority of India limited's modernization program at its IISCO plant and also strengthens the long-term collaboration between the plant manufacturer and the steel manufacturer.
