This project stretches from Shanghai to Chengdu, covering about 2,000 kilometers. It connects three major urban agglomerations - the Yangtze River Delta, the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Chengdu-Chongqing region. The railway project will create a demand for 570,000 tons of high-strength special steel.
China to build high-speed railway under Yangtze River
The world's largest high-speed railway tunneling machine is currently being operated at a depth of 89 meters under the Yangtze River as part of the major Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway project with an estimated total investment exceeding 500 billion yuan ($72.5 billion). The project is expected to boost value-added growth in the mining and processing industries by almost 1.5 trillion yuan ($0.22 trillion).
