According to data released by the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in February this year the value of exports of base metals and metal products from South Africa was 14.69 billion South African rand ($863 million), up 15.8 percent from January. In January-February, the value of South Africa's exports of base metals and base metal products fell 20.7 percent year-on-year to ZAR27.35 billion ($1.61 billion).
The country's imports of base metals and base metal products totaled ZAR7.02 billion in February (USD 412.73 million), down 17.9 percent from the previous month, while in the first two South Africa's imports of base metals and products for the months of 2026 fell 1.6 percent year on year to ZAR 15.60 billion (USD 916.64 million).
