According to Statistics Canada, the country's iron and steel imports totaled 1.38 million tonnes in January 2026, down 61.2 percent from last year. In value terms, iron and steel imports totaled $755.39 million in January 2026, up from $884.85 million in the same month in 2025.
Canada imported the most iron and steel from the United States in that month, with 263,833 tons. The other largest source of iron and steel imports in January was China with 80,252 tons
