TCUD: Turkish steel production will increase in February 2026, but exports will fall even more

Crude steel production rose 3.4 percent year-on-year to 3.20 million tons in Turkey in February this year, maintaining its position as the world's seventh-largest steel-producing country, while production rose 4.7 percent year-on-year to 6.41 million tons in the first two months, according to a statement released by the Turkish Steel Association (TCUD). Turkey's billet and slab production stood at 1.79 million tonnes and 1.23 million tonnes in February, down 4.9 percent and up 18.6 percent year-on-year, respectively. In the January-February period, Turkey produced 3.86 million tons of billets, up 0.1 percent, versus 2.55 million tons of slabs, up 12.9 percent from the same period in 2025.

In the month, Turkey's finished steel consumption rose 11.3 percent year-on-year to 3.19 million tons, while in the January-February period, The country's steel output rose 4.1 percent year-on-year to 6.7 million tons.

Turkey's steel exports fell 8.6 percent to 1.1 million tons in February, and the value of those exports fell 9.2 percent year-on-year to $714.8 million. In the first two months, the country's steel exports fell 13.5 percent to two million tons, and the value of those exports fell 15.2 percent to $1.3 billion year on year. Exports of flat and long products in January-February amounted to 764,730 tons and 1.08 million tons, respectively, down 15.5 percent and 16.9 percent year-on-year, while exports of semi-finished products amounted to 146,574 tons, up 47.8 percent year-on-year.

Steel imports to Turkey in February increased by nine percent to Import volume of 1.5 million tons, and the value of those imports increased by 7.2 percent to $1 billion, both year on year. Between January and February, the country's steel imports fell 10.8 percent to 2.7 million tons, and the value of those imports fell 11.7 percent to $1.9 billion year on year. In terms of imported products, imports of flat and long products in the first two months amounted to 1.32 million tons and 237,119 tons, respectively, with a decrease of 11.4 percent and an increase of 19.6 percent year on year, while imports of semi-finished products amounted to 1.17 million tons, a decrease of 14.5 percent year on year.
