Car sales in Turkey decreased by four percent in the first quarter of 2026

In March of this year, car sales in Turkey totaled 105,709 units, up 16.1 percent from January and down 13 percent year-on-year, according to monthly statistics released by the Association of Automobile Manufacturers of Turkey (OSD). In the same month, passenger car sales in Turkey totaled 79,857 units, down 13 percent from last year. Meanwhile, in January-March of this year, car sales in Turkey totaled 274,346 units, down four percent compared to the same period last year.

In the first three months of this year, car exports to Turkey totaled 215,323 units, down 15.1 percent, while passenger car exports decreased by 29 percent to 106,341 units, year-on-year. During the same period, the country exported 81,625 small trucks, which is 8.2 percent more than last year. In the specified period, revenues from total exports of motor vehicles and components increased by 3.3 percent to $9.68 billion, while revenues from exports of passenger cars totaled $2.5 billion, down 7.9 percent year-on-year.

In March, total imports of motor vehicles to Turkey totaled 69,556 units, down 18.7 percent from the previous year, while imports of passenger cars totaled 51,638 units, down 18.4 percent from the previous year.
