The production division of German steelmaker thyssenkrupp thyssenkrupp Uhde has announced a major contract for the design and supply of a new low-emission coke oven battery for South Korean steelmaker POSCO Pohang Steelworks.
The contract covers technology supply, engineering, equipment purchase, site supervision, and commissioning support. The new top-charging coke battery will replace the existing No. 3A battery, which has been in operation since the 1980s.
EnviBAT technology to reduce emissions
The project will include thyssenkrupp Uhde's patented EnviBAT® technology, designed to significantly reduce emissions from the coking process. The system continuously monitors and adjusts pressure levels, preventing pressure peaks and minimizing emissions from furnace doors and battery roofs.
Additional design improvements, including flexible door systems and waterproof pipe covers, will further enhance emission control and operational efficiency.
