As of April 1, the average quota utilization rate reached 50 percent, compared with the 35 percent rate announced on March 11. The current rates are as follows:
· Sheets in coils: 19 percent from 1,284 tons, unchanged
· HRC: 18 percent from 36,120 tons, against 12 percent previously
· CRC: 44 percent from 84,203 tons, against 19 percent earlier
· Galvanized coating: 61 percent of 144,285 tons compared to 43 percent previously
· Electroplating: 57 percent of 147,038 tons compared to 48 percent previously
· Wire rod: the figures reviewed show a 16 percent utilization of 32,534 tons
Volumes exceeding quotas during the period will be subject to an import tariff of 25 percent.
The Brazilian steel industry argues that the adoption of quotas remains insufficient to reduce steel imports under the alleged dumping conditions, as most imports are carried out through the tax-free zone of Manaus, even if the products are subsequently moved to other regions.
