Acciaierie Bertoli Safau acquires R. Casini, consolidating its scrap metal center in Friuli

Acciaierie Bertoli Safau приобретает R. Casini, консолидируя свой центр металлолома во Фриули
Acciaierie Bertoli Safau (ABS), the steel division of Danieli Group, has completed the acquisition of 100 percent of the share capital of R. Casini Srl, a historic company based in Feletto Umberto, province of Udine, engaged in the collection, processing and trading of ferrous and metallic materials.

The transaction was completed through ABS subsidiary Rott-Ferr Srl and is part of the supply chain integration process initiated by ABS in 2023 with the acquisition of Rott-Ferr itself. The aim is to strengthen the company's control over raw materials, which are becoming increasingly strategic for the European steel industry, ensuring greater supply continuity, higher scrap quality and increased sustainability throughout the steel production cycle.

The integration of Rott-Ferr and R. Casini will create a scrap center in Friuli with a total management capacity estimated at approximately 200,000 tons per year to support the production of specialty steels. In the medium term, the industrial plan provides for an increase in collection and processing volumes using the experience gained by Rott-Ferr in recent years.

"The acquisition of R. Casini is part of a consistent industrial plan initiated with Rott-Ferr, with a long-term perspective," said ABS Chairman Camilla Benedetti. "The growing importance of scrap to the European steel industry makes it necessary to invest in collection capacity, processing expertise, and raw material selection and evaluation, while strengthening local roots and business continuity."

The ABS action confirms the group's intention to consolidate control over previous stages of the production chain in a context in which the availability of high-quality scrap is becoming an increasingly important competitive factor for producers of steel produced in electric arc furnaces. Strengthening the collection and cost-raising activities of metal materials is also consistent with the group's goals for efficiency and sustainable development.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, ABS recently began construction work on its hybrid digital green plant, a 400 million euro project at its Pozzuolo del Friuli plant. The new line, with an estimated annual capacity of 730,000 tons, is part of a broader industrial plan that includes total investments of 817 million euros between 2023 and 2028, aimed at increasing the group's production capacity from 1.4 million tons to more than 2.1 million tons per year and reducing emissions by 30 percent by 2030.

Thus, the acquisition of R. Casini represents a further step in ABS's Development Strategy in the specialty steels segment, strengthening its industrial presence in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
