According to the American Institute of Iron and Steel (AISI), for the week ending May 2, 2026, domestic production of raw steel in the United States amounted to 1,856 million net tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 80.4 percent.
Production for the week ending May 2, 2026 increased by 1.4 percent compared to the previous week ending April 25, 2026, when production was 1.830 million net tons and capacity utilization was 79.3 percent.
Production totaled 1.694 million net tons for the week ended May 2, 2025, and capacity utilization was 75.4 percent. Production this week represents an increase of 9.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
Adjusted production from the beginning of the year to May 2, 2026 amounted to 31.405 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 77.9 percent. This is 6.2 percent more than the 29.582 million net tons in the same period last year, when the capacity utilization rate was 76.1 percent.
