U.K.-based Primetals Technologies has announced the launch of its EAF ultimate Move electric arc furnace, a new solution designed to support cost-effective electric steel projects.
According to the company, the new furnace offers faster drawdown times, requires a smaller footprint, reduces maintenance requirements and reduces overall capital costs.
Primetals Technologies said EAF ultimate Move complements its existing electric steelmaking portfolio, including EAF Quantum and EAF ultimate. The new solution can process various combinations of materials, including hot blast furnace metal, giving manufacturers greater flexibility in the use of raw materials.
EAF ultimate Move uses a movable support frame, a load-bearing housing, and an adapted hydraulic tilting system. The design allows the furnace casing to be replaced towards the filling compartment, reducing building and auxiliary equipment requirements.
The system also includes single-bucket operation, single-point roof rotation and an advanced slag-free furnace outlet that allows tapholes to be released and filled under power-on conditions, further increasing productivity and reducing drawdown time to release.
