In April this year, sales of excavators in China totaled 28,745 units, up 29.8 percent year-on-year, as announced by China's Construction Machinery and Equipment (CME).
Specifically, in April, sales of excavators in China's domestic market totaled 16,920 units, an increase of 34.9 percent year on year, while excavator sales at export markets totaled 11,825 units, an increase of 23.2 percent year on year.
In January-April this year, China's excavator sales totaled 102,081 units, up 22.2 percent year-on-year. During the period, China's domestic excavator sales were 56,499 units, an increase of 15 percent year-on-year, while excavator sales to export markets were 45,582 units, an increase of 32.5 percent year-on-year.
The machinery sector has become one of the most important sectors for the steel sector as demand shifts from real estate for production and high-quality equipment. In 2025, machinery manufacturing was the main driver of steel demand in China, accounting for approximately 30-35 percent of total steel consumption. The manufacturing industry (including machinery, automobiles and shipbuilding) as a whole consumed 50 percent of China's steel in 2024 and about 51 percent in 2025.
