The Government of Kazakhstan has announced the signing of an investment agreement for the construction of the country's first modern metallurgical coke plant in the Karaganda region.
The project will have a planned annual production capacity of 1 million tons and is expected to be one of the first large-scale coal chemical initiatives in Kazakhstan.
The agreement was signed between the Ministry of Energy and Kazakhstan Success Coking Energy. Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov and Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhstan Success Coking Energy Jin Sheng signed a document that was approved by a government decree.
Planned full-cycle metallurgical coke chemical complex
According to the announcement, the project will provide for the construction of a full-cycle metallurgical coke chemical complex. The development is expected to strengthen industrial processing capabilities in Kazakhstan and expand the use of the added value of domestic coal resources.
The project will be put into operation gradually. The first stage is scheduled to begin in 2029 with an annual production capacity of up to 500,000 tons of metallurgical coke. The full production capacity of 1 million tons per year is planned for 2031.
The total investment in the project is estimated at 63.5 billion tenge, which is equivalent to about $ 134.13 million. The development is also expected to create up to 500 permanent jobs in the region.
