SSAB supplies decarbonized steel for the Vattenfall solar power project in Germany

SSAB поставляет декарбонизированную сталь для проекта солнечной электростанции Vattenfall в Германии

Swedish steelmaker SSAB announced that it has supplied decarbonized steel to a solar power project being developed in Germany by Swedish energy company Vattenfall, highlighting growing demand for low-emission steel products in renewable energy infrastructure.

SSAB Zero™ will be used in the supporting structures on which solar panels are mounted. In total, more than 9,000 steel sections will be used, weighing a total of 209 tonnes.

The project is part of wider efforts across Europe to reduce carbon emissions in energy and construction supply chains.

Decarbonized steel used in solar infrastructure

According to SSAB, the steel supplied for the project was produced using low-emission steel production technologies aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to conventional blast furnace production.

Material under development. is being used in designs associated with the development of Vattenfall's solar farm in Germany, where sustainability and reducing life-cycle emissions are becoming increasingly important procurement criteria.

“The electricity generated by this solar farm will help reduce Germany's dependence on imported fossil fuels. But for us, freedom from fossil fuels doesn't end at power generation - it starts at the beginning of the supply chain. As a company, we support the long-term social goal of moving away from fossil fuels,” said Klaus Wattendrup, Head of Solar Energy and Batteries at Vattenfall.
