The average freight rate for Brazilian steel imports was $58 per metric ton (mt) in April, compared with an average of $52 per ton in March, an increase of 11.54 percent, according to data provided by Siscomex, Brazil's central foreign trade system.
By product, April freight rates were as follows:
For HRC, they were $52 per ton for South Korea, $50/t for China and $23/t for Italy.
For CRC it was $59/t for South Korea and $86/t for China.
For coated flats it was $66/t for China, $68/t for Vietnam, $82/t for South Korea, $93/t for Japan, $57/t from India, $35/t for UK and $36/t for Turkey.
For wire rod it was $37/t for Egypt, $62/t for Russia, $38/t for China and $23/t for Germany.
For rebar it was $69/t for Russia, $65/t for China, $139/t for South Korea and US$21 per ton from Turkey.
For strip: US$34 per ton for Turkey and US$60 per ton for China.
For beams: US$34 per ton for Turkey.
For steel wire: US$55 per ton for China, US$18 per ton for Egypt, US$48 per ton for France and US$24 per ton for Turkey.
In April, Brazil's imports of finished steel products from China by volume were equivalent to 45 percent of the total, up from 63 percent in March, reflecting the impact of anti-dumping duties on imports of CRC and coated flat products from China imposed by Brazilian authorities in February.
