India's JSW Steel limited has begun construction of a 13.2 million tonne per annum steel plant in the port city of Paradip in the eastern state of Odisha, the company said in a statement on Thursday, May 28.
Situated on 2,950 acres of Paradip coastline, the project will entail an investment of $6.8 billion, the largest capital investment yet costs incurred by JSW Steel.
The project is expected to be implemented in phases, but the company has not disclosed any timeline.
The location is expected to provide reliable port connectivity and easier access to raw materials and logistics infrastructure for both domestic and export markets, the company said.
