The renovation included replacing one of the 25-year-old CCS® compact stands in the tandem rolling group. The replacement was made to provide higher rolling forces. SMS Group said the project also covers the installation of upgraded electrical and automation equipment, including new and enhanced control functions. From contract signing to installation, the project was completed in just 12 months, during the annual scheduled maintenance shutdown that year.

SMS Group reported that the hot commissioning was completed two days ahead of schedule. The first launch beam was manufactured within the required tolerances, followed by a successful 700m rolling campaign during the night shift. Regular production resumed the next day.
