According to customs statistics, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 667,678 tons in April this year, down 10.1 percent from 742,415 tons in the same month the previous year. Between January and April this year, the country exported 2.35 million tons of scrap, down 9.9 percent from the previous year.
During this period, Vietnam was the largest importer of Japanese scrap, importing 1.02 million tons, down 10.1 percent from the previous year. Vietnam was followed by Bangladesh and South Korea, which imported 516,219 tons and 350,019 tons of scrap, down 22.3% and 17.9%, respectively, year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Japanese scrap exports to Thailand stood at 173,869 tons in January-April this year, compared with 81,956 tons for the same period of the previous year.
