Germany's steel industry has warned that persistent disruptions to rail freight transport are threatening the supply of critical raw materials to steel mills, raising concerns about the stability of production across the sector.
In a statement addressing the current state of Germany's rail network, the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl) said the transport of iron ore and coal by rail is becoming increasingly difficult. more problematic due to infrastructure works and operational disruptions.

According to Kerstin Maria Rippel, managing director of WV Stahl, the current situation around rail supplies of iron ore and coal has become “extremely critical” for the steel industry. It said ongoing construction projects, operational disruptions and inadequately prepared drainage routes were undermining the reliable supply of raw materials to steel mills.
The association warned that problems had already begun to affect production at some sites.
