TCUD: Steel production in Turkey to grow in January-April 2026

According to a statement released by the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD), in April this year, crude steel production increased by 9.4 percent year-on-year to 3.29 million tons in Turkey, the seventh largest steel producing country in the world, while production increased by 6.3 percent in the first four months. up to 13.04 million tons year-on-year. In April, the production of billets and slabs in Turkey amounted to 1.94 million tons and 1.34 million tons, which is 3.5 percent and 19.2 percent more than last year, respectively. In the period from January to April, Turkey produced 7.69 million tons of billets, up 0.4 percent from 5.34 million tons of slabs, up 17.6 percent from the same period in 2025.

In this month, consumption of finished steel in Turkey increased by 12.0 percent year-on-year to 3.34 million tons, while in the period from January to April, consumption of finished steel in the country increased by 9.7 percent year-on-year to 13.22 million tons.

In April, steel exports from Turkey increased by 11.3 percent to 1.3 million tons, while the value of these exports increased by 9.3 percent year-on-year to $885,522. In the first four months, the country's steel exports decreased by 3.3 percent to 4.79 million tons, while the value of these exports decreased by 5.5 percent to $3.17 billion year-on-year. Exports of flat and long products in the period from January to April amounted to 1.94 million tons and 2.57 million tons, respectively, with a decrease of eight percent and 2.1 percent year-on-year, while exports of semi-finished products amounted to 273,674 tons, an increase of 28.5 percent year-on-year.

In April, steel imports to Turkey increased by 17.7 percent to 1.58 million tons, while the value of these imports increased by 7.8 percent to $1.08 billion year-on-year. In the period from January to April, the country's steel imports increased by 6.3 percent to 5.93 million tons, while the value of these imports increased by 0.9 percent to $4.05 billion year-on-year. As for imported products, imports of flat and long products in the first four months amounted to 2.82 million tons and 506,076 tons, respectively, with an increase of 4.4 percent and a decrease of one percent year-on-year, while imports of semi-finished products amounted to 2.59 million tons, an increase of 10.1 percent year-on-year.

In the first four months, the ratio of Turkish steel exports to imports decreased. to 78.16 percent from 83.44 percent recorded in the same period last year.
