Brazil exported 17,800 tonnes and imported 43,200 tonnes of hot rolled coil (HRC) in May, up from 22,500 tonnes and 38,100 tonnes respectively in April, the result of a 53% decline in exports to South America, while imports rose as Egypt returned as an exporter.
Exports went to the US. (13,200 tons at a price of 696 US dollars per ton) and South American countries (4,600 tons at a price of 589 US dollars per ton), all on FOB terms.
Supplies were carried out by CSN (13,200 tons), ArcelorMittal (3,400 tons) and Gerdau (1,200 tons).
Imports were carried out from Egypt (20 100 tons at US$539 per ton), South Korea (12,200 tonnes at US$485 per ton) and China (10,900 tonnes at US$516 per ton), also FOB.
As some exports are to subsidiaries within the same group, prices may have been set at levels that do not reflect prevailing market conditions.
