According to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japan's crude steel production in May this year increased 5.1 percent from the previous month and 1.7 percent from May 2025, amounting to 6.95 million tons.
Meanwhile, Japan's pig iron production this month was 5.04 million metric tons, an increase of 5.8 percent from the previous month and up 1.7 percent year-on-year.
In the first five months of this year, the country's steel production was 33.61 million metric tons, down 0.7 percent, and pig iron production was 24.25 million metric tons, down 1.1 percent year-on-year.
