From January to August of this year, exports of finished steel products from China amounted to 75.149 million tons, a decrease of 3.0% year-on-year. This is 1.4 percentage points better than in the first seven months, according to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). Since the beginning of 2026, China has been implementing a new export license policy, which negatively affects the supply of finished steel products to foreign markets.
In August, exports of finished steel products from China totaled 10.155 million tons, an increase of 0.3% compared to July and 6.8% year-on-year.
For the first eight months of this year, imports of finished steel products to China amounted to 3.574 million tons, which is 10.5% less than in the same period last year. In August, imports totaled 434,000 tons, down 2.5% from the previous month and 13.2% year-on-year.
