Swedish company GreenIron has passed the EU Innovation Fund’s selection stage and been invited to prepare a grant agreement worth up to €20 million. The company develops hydrogen-based metals technology and plans to build an industrial facility.
GreenIron said its project was one of 77 selected from 358 applications. The European Commission cited its innovation potential, technical feasibility and contribution to reducing industrial emissions.
The funding is not yet confirmed: the grant agreement must first be prepared, and GreenIron must continue developing the project. A final investment decision will follow.
The EU Innovation Fund is financed by revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System. In the latest round, the Commission selected 77 projects from 23 countries, representing up to €3.4 billion in potential support. The projects cover industrial decarbonisation, renewable energy and recycling.
