From October 6 to 8, 2013, the WorldSteel-47 Congress took place in San Paulo (Brazil), which gathered the most significant leaders of the world steel industry. In his report, Alacero President Mr. Baptist expressed concern about the strong dependence of the Latin American economy on the export of raw materials, and its negative consequences that are observed in the present due to the slowdown of Chinese demand.
Mr. Baptist is most concerned about an increase in imports in separation from the growth of internal demand. The situation is alarming, since the internal demand for steel by almost a quarter is satisfied due to supplies from China. Many products come to Latin America on unfair conditions of trade and complicate the competitive situation to local manufacturers.
