Russian green worries about blue-yellow neighbors

In Belgorod, a protest of local "green" against the production of shale gas in Ukraine took place. About seven hundred members of Alns of the Green - the People’s Party took part in the manifestation, held on October 13, the REGNUM news agency betrays.

Belgorod activists of the environmental movement are concerned about the plans for the production of shale gas in the Kharkov region - the border with Belogorodskaya. According to the organizers of the manifestation, the plans of the Ukrainian leadership carry a serious danger to the population of both states.

The leader of the Green - People's Party Alliance told reporters that shale gas production can lead to an environmental disaster: this is associated with the high toxicity of solutions used for hydraulic fracturing (hydraulic expansion of the layer) and the seismic hazard of this production method. Therefore, in the USA, where until recently, shale gas production was experiencing a real boom, now mining is carried out only in desert areas. A number of European countries have already introduced a ban on shale gas production and drilling using hydraulic fracturing.

At the end of their action, the Belgorod Green signed an appeal to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych with an appeal "not to put a shale cross on the life of two fraternal peoples."
