Evraz North America announced the suspension of the steel factory in Kleimont, Delaver, due to low market demand and high volumes of imports.
Over the past two months, 375 employees of the enterprise were preparing the plant for a blank transfer. Since Evraz is considering the possibility of restarting in case of improvement in the steel market.
Evraz Kleimont produces sheet rental and non -standard products for industrial consumers. The total production for the first half of 2013 amounted to a little more than 189 thousand tons, and in 2012 - 383.5 thousand tons. In the first half of the year, a drop in steel prices led to the fact that Evraz lost $ 524 million, and only successful energy management allowed the company to survive, reports http://elektromekhanika.com/energomenedzhment/
However, experts believe that financial indicators are not the main reason for the termination of the plant. There is an opinion that the plant in the bracket had a limited series of steel stamps, and most likely the company had problems with providing orders.
Evraz believes that the stop of the enterprise in the bracket will not adversely affect its regular customers, the orders of which will be carried out at other Evras in Portland, Oreogn, and Regina, Saskachevan.
Vice Presidnt John Beseski said: “We highly appreciate the efforts of our employees, but, unfortunately, the negative market prospects do not make it possible to continue the operation of the plant.” All employees of the plant, with the exception of no large number of employees who will remain to maintain the existence of the plant, will be directed to other facilities or retraining.
