ArcelorMittal Gent successfully launched an updated converter

In Belgium, in accordance with the ArcelorMittal Gent schedule, the converter, modernized by SMS Siemag, Germany, successfully put into operation. The company SMS Siemag supplies a converter equipped in the central part of the TRAPF ring connecting to the tilt device, as well as the converter rotation mechanism.

The use of a system specially designed by SMS Siemag for this production allows you to increase the specific volume of the converter by more than 15 percent. Thanks to the unique suspension system, the space required to install the converter can be used more efficiently. This decision ensures the work of the central part with the TRAPF ring without restrictions.

The converter is practically not susceptible to thermal stresses due to the use of a lamella system that provides a wide gap between the tsapf ring and the cylindrical part of the converter, as well as the use of fine -grained structural steels with high -temperature stability. In this regard, no additional cooling media are required.

The necessary cooling of the converter is ensured naturally, which greatly simplifies the process of processing liquid cast iron into steel. The modernization of the oxygen converter will increase the total volume of manufactured steel on steelmail units of the metallurgical plant.
