The German steel company Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe announced the restart of the blast furnace No. 9 at the aid in Khamborne, Duisburg. Recall that this furnace was disabled in the spring of 2012 for major repairs and replacing the cooling system. As part of the overhaul, the latest high-pressure compressor was used. Thyssenkrupp invested about 38 million euros in modernizing the blasties in order to increase the competitiveness of the plant in Duysburg.
According to the company, the production of cast iron in the domain furnace No. 9 took place as part of preparation for the planned overhaul of the blast furnace No. 2 in Schwelgern, Duisburg planned for the next year. How long the Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe will work when all four furnaces in Duisburg will work at full load on the development of the situation in the European steel market.
Recall that Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe has four blastes in its composition. Two of them work today in Khamborne - the Zavodsky district of Duysburg and have a capacity of about 3 million 700 thousand tons of cast iron per year. The other two blast furnaces are located in the port of Dusburg Schwelgern. Their total capacity reaches more than 7 million 700 thousand tons of steel per year.
As noted by the President of the European Metallurgical Association of Eurofer, the launch of additional steel capacities indicates the revival of demand for steel in the EU.
