Tata Steel announced a proposal for the restructuring of the production of varietal rental in order to strengthen its competitiveness. The proposed changes affect mainly managerial and administrative functions in the field in the scantorp, tissid and work, which can lead to a loss of about 500 jobs.
About 340 seats can be affected in the scantorp, 90 in Vorkington and 40 in tissid. Tata Steel explains that “the proposals were made against the backdrop of a protracted reserve of demand for some key products manufactured in scandars, including the UK market focused on construction. And the production of steel is about half of the 2007 level. ”
Karl Keler, the general director of the European division Tata Steel, said: “The European demand for steel this year is expected to reach only two -thirds of the pre -crisis level after a fall over the past two years. The difficult economic situation, the requirements regarding energy and the environment in Europe and the UK threaten to impose huge additional costs of ferrous metallurgy. ”
Tata Steel believes that the proposed changes are designed to create a more strong base in the future, which allows you to create long -term business relations in order to compete even in difficult economic and normative conditions. Keler added: “Of course, we will fully participate in the fate of employees with the support of trade unions and politically interested parties during this restructuring process. We will do our best to support our employees at this alarming time. ”
Tata Steel restructuring in the UK will lead to a reduction in 500 workers
